BACKGROUND:
After the warlord Cortese raided her home village of Amphipolis and killed her younger brother, Lyceus, Xena raised an army and began a quest to keep Amphipolis safe from all who would oppose it. But on one of her raids, she encountered a person that would forever change her life, and her outlook on it: Julius Caesar.
After Caesar betrayed, crucified, and killed her only real friend M'lila, Xena changed into a bloodthirsty killer. Tales of the Warrior Princess were told for years. She ravaged the Greek world as a bloodthirsty warlord, bent on nothing but evil until her run-in with Hercules.
Hercules diverted Xena from her evil ways to the path of righteousness. She has now become a fighter for truth and justice. She helps those in need of her special skills in an attempt to help atone for her past misdeeds.

BACKGROUND:
Gabrielle was born and raised in Poteidaia. Having an adventurous spirit, Gabrielle believed that she wasn't cut-out for the village life her parents wanted her to live. She met Xena (in the first episode) just after the Warrior Princess had been persuaded by Hercules to fight for the side of good. Seeing this as her chance to escape her monotonous village life and engagement a dull farmer named Perdicus, Gabrielle snuck away to follow Xena. The two quickly became friends and traveling companions.
A gifted bard, Gabrielle was once accepted into the Athens City Academy of the Performing Bards. She most often uses her story-telling talent to ease other's pain, to bring smiles to otherwise worried faces, and to teach people lessons in life by using examples from tales she has heard.
In her first encounter with the Amazons, Gabrielle befriended Terreis, the younger sister of Melosa, the Amazon Queen. Terreis, however, had been mortally wounded by an unseen archer. Before she died, the young Amazon had passed all of her possesions, including her title as Amazon Princess, to Gabrielle. The Amazons accepted Gabrielle and trained her in the use of the staff. The compassionate bard chose the staff because she does not believe in violence or killing. On some occasions, the quick-witted Gabrielle is able to talk her way out of a bind, but often enough, she has to rely on her skills with the staff for self-defense. After Melosa was defeated by her adopted daughter Velaska, Gabrielle became the new Amazon Queen. However, since Gabrielle prefers to travel with Xena, she gave the mask of the Queen to Ephiny who now rules the Amazon Nation in her stead.

BACKGROUND:
As a child, Callisto watched her mother and older sister die when Xena's army burned her village. Though she was once the victim of the Warrior Princess, she has become her greatest enemy. Callisto's two goals in life are to destroy everything Xena holds dear in life, and to send Xena to Tartarus. Over the years, Callisto's hatred for Xena burned inside her, rendering her twisted and insane.
After Xena let her die in quicksand, Callisto found herself in Tartarus. With the help of Ares, however, she did not stay there for long. She became immortal after eating an enchanted apple while on a quest with Hercules. She then became a goddess after eating the Food of the Gods during a fight with Velaska (Goddess of Chaos). The fight ended when the two Gods fell into a lava pit. However, Gabrielle's 'daughter' Hope freed Callisto and she once again is at large.

BACKGROUND:
Ares is the Olympian God of War, Hercules' half-brother, and the son of the Gods Zeus and Hera. As the God of War, bloodlust and hate come easy for Ares. He pulls peoples strings and inflames their passions in order to get them to do his biddings. Ares is most proud of those who are committed, decisive and ruthless on the battlefield. His favorite and most prized pupil was Xena. Since she now fights agaist tyrany and injustice, he attempts to deceive and manipulate the Warrior Princess in the vain hopes of bringing her back into his fold.
